"I cannot imagine her in a room without music. We put on FM radio because our wifi bill lapsed this month, and instead of getting current, we elected to go out for dinner. On the way home, she looked to the sky, empty: a new moon. Her eyes glistened anyway. But now we’re home, listening to FM radio under a new moon, under a roof, under the floor of our upstairs neighbor. They could tune in with us. They could share this song, syncopate their steps with us — maybe they are. Maybe everyone is. An ad blares, “THIS IS A POLITICAL AND SPIRITUAL ENDORSEMENT. EVEN IF UNINTENTIONAL — LIFE (AND GOD) SPEAKS TO US THROUGH SERENDIPITY. MEANING IS ATTRIBUTED, NOT INHERENT.” Looking at her movements, you wouldn’t know an ad just played. She finds a rhythm in those words and continues gliding across the apartment. I am a feather thrown in the flurry of her wind, swirling around her — no, with her — unable to distinguish where she ends and I begin. Between violent kicks and tranquil sways, there are blurred glimpses of one life among infinite others. As celestial beings, we circle the room in each other’s orbits. We’re cosmic dust guided by a force we put a name to only a few hundred years ago, and tonight it compels us to dance. Our flailing limbs begin to dissolve like a new moon, then our bodies; then the apartment, its walls and its ceiling. The sky falls softly to the ground, and I see you (universe) dancing in the street."
